Epic. I linked to this whole thread earlier. I’m glad someone broke it down like this. 

Um, excessive much? I mean, was a ban on a full price game given out on a first offence? Really?

Just to clarify, it’s a 72 hour ban. So it’s more like a warning. And some folks with lesser offensive names were allowed to change their name right away and get back to playing. 

These offences were reported by other players, so likely, if these folks said something like this in shout chat once, it wasn’t the only thing they said or did to offend. And the bad names? Well, people should know better. Period. 

I guess I don’t have much sympathy for those who ruin the game for other people with nasty language and racially offensive comments. If they get reported for it, I’m sure there’s a reason. Anet even said that they don’t ban on every little language slip-up. It has to have some merit behind it.
